Within the framework of the Residence Opportunities Act ("Chancenaufenthaltsrecht") in accordance with Section 104c AufenthG, people in Germany have 18 months to fulfil the requirements for a subsequent residence permit in accordance with Section 25a or Section 25b AufenthG. For the latter in particular, oral German language skills of at least A2 level (CEFR) are required.

A new initiative aims to facilitate and support this process: The language proficiency assessment of the Saxony-Anhalt Regional Association of Adult Education Centers (Landesverband der Volkshochschulen Sachsen-Anhalt e. V.), funded by the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Health and Equal Opportunities, offers holders of the Opportunity Residence Right the possibility to have their oral language skills professionally tested and certified up to B1.2 level. This can be utilised if the language skills cannot be proven in any other way, for example by completing a vocational training course in Germany.

The project will run on a trial basis from 01.01.2024 to 31.12.2024. Interested parties can fill out a registration form and submit copies of their residence permit in accordance with § 104c AufenthG and their ID to the Saxony-Anhalt Regional Association of Adult Education Centers. Once the documents have been checked, they will receive an invitation to the test.
