Knowing strengths and areas of potential helps to create an individual applicant profile. It makes sense to also include the non-professional interests and activities of the person seeking advice. If necessary, a migration-specific competence assessment can help to identify informal competences.
In order to integrate immigrants into training and work, it can therefore be helpful to first talk to them about their strengths. To this end, the Forschungsinstitut Betriebliche Bildung (f-bb) gGmbH (Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training), together with the Bertelsmann Foundation and seven welfare associations, has developed competence cards that are tailored to the needs of both migrants and counsellors. They visualise the competences of the clients and form a basis for the further counselling process. The competence terms are translated into seven languages. The maps can be downloaded from the Bertelsmann Foundation.
