The Intermediate secondary school leaving certificate (Realschulabschluss) is obtained at the end of the tenth year of lower secondary school. For this, the participants have to take an examination. The Realschulabschluss is a prerequisite for attending upper secondary level institutions such as grammar schools, technical colleges or vocational colleges.
At an evening secondary school
The Realschulabschluss can be obtained in Saxony-Anhalt at evening secondary schools. Classes are held at regular secondary schools in evening classes. The prerequisite for obtaining the Realschulabschluss is the Hauptschulabschluss. The Realschulabschluss is a prerequisite for obtaining the higher education entrance qualification (Abitur).
